Dr. Kordi, TUMS Vice-Chancellor for Global Strategies and International Affairs, met with Professor Abubakar Rasheed, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian National Universities Commission, for educational and research collaboration with Nigerian universities, on Tuesday, 17th July, 2018.
After welcoming the guests and a friendly lunch, Dr. Kordi presented an introduction to the University, pointing out its history, facilities, ranking, and statistics. He also added that 10 percent of TUMS international students are from Nigeria, mostly studying in doctor of medicine, nursing, medical laboratory sciences, pharmacy, and doctor of dental surgery programs, and so far 10 students have graduated. He also highlighted future plans for Joint Ph.D. programs for faculty members and the creation of a cohort of faculty members. Dr. Kordi also raised the question of opening up a branch campus in Nigeria.
The Nigerian Executive Secretary mentioned the activity of 164 universities in his respective country, only three of which are specialized in medical sciences.
Professor Rasheed hoped for future collaborations to bring some of the chancellors and vice-chancellors of Nigerian universities to visit Iran and that an Iranian delegation can also be invited to visit Nigeria’s capital, Abuja and other cities.
At the end of the meeting, the Nigerian delegation put forth their request for further complimentary information of the university's academic programs and cooperation potential in order to plan and arrange further bilateral dicussions toward achieving operational collaboration agendas.
